Description of event:
Living in the world differently than most people can give different perspectives on many things especially when you don’t have a choice of the difference you have in your life. Many of us have disabilities which gives us this different perspective on living life. This show is for those in the art community that live with disabilities. Yes, this is an awareness show about how disabilities may or may not shape art, but that there are artists with disabilities just like any other profession.
This is a show for people with disabilities to share awareness of their talents and abilities in their artwork. The only requirement is that you bring your best professional pieces you have. We obviously will not be asking about what your disability is, but this show is for those with disabilities only to submit. You may make your artwork about your disability or not. If you would like to share the title of what your disability is to put on your tag, the gallery will add it, but it is completely up to you. Some may want to raise awareness of specific disabilities in this way. This is not a show that limits to types of disabilities either. City Center Arts feels this would set up a system that otherizes people within the disabled community so both mental or physical are welcome. What is not included are diseases or long term illnesses as a disability. We are not saying that these are things that lead to disabilities. City Center Arts wants to continue to have shows that bring awareness to all of these things, but we feel these disabilities need to be apart of awareness of the effects of these diseases such as cancer, diabetes, Parkinson.
