What is Holidays in the City?

Holidays in the City is a collaboration between the Downtown Development Authority, the City of Muskegon, the Muskegon Lakeshore Chamber of Commerce, and business owners to bring you the very best of our downtown during the holiday season. Every weekend from Thanksgiving through Christmas, there are fun and exciting holiday events taking place! Explore below all the great things downtown Muskegon has to offer this holiday season!

The Kick-Off

Holidays in the City kicks off on November 26 with Small Business Saturday and the community Christmas tree lighting in Hackley Park.

Small Business Saturday
Holidays in the City first began over 10 years ago with the start of Small Business Saturday and is still the kick-off event! Downtown Muskegon prides itself on the abundunce of local shops and resturants, so come on down on November 26 and shop local!
Hackley Park Tree Lighting
Santa and his reindeer will make a special visit to Hackley Park for the community Christmas tree lighting on November 26! Holiday activities will begin with the Teddy Bear Trail at the Muskegon Art Museum start at 9am. Join them for donuts, teddy bear check-ups & adoptions, hot cocoa and candy canes with Santa, and so much more! Then at 3pm, head over to the Hackley and Hume Historic Site for their Holiday Tours Kick-Off at 3pm. Enjoy tours of the Hackley and Hume homes, ornament decorating, and purchase your Christmas tree & wreaths! Santa’s reindeer will be available to meet starting at 4:30pm. Santa himself will arrive at Hackley Park to receive the keys to the city and light the Christmas tree at 6pm. Head over to the Hackley Public Library after to tree lighting to meet Santa!
GLOW After Party
After the tree lighting, make your way through the city and to the Social Sandbox to watch the whole city light up for the holidays!
